BARBARA DORAN

MORAG LOVES COMPANY founded by director/producer, Barbara Doran, is based in St. John’s, Newfoundland and has been producing international films and television for the past thirty years. The company is an internationally recognized production house specializing in documentary and drama productions, including the Gemini winning mini-series "Random Passage” and our most recent box office hit, “The Grand Seduction”, starring Brendan Gleeson and Taylor Kitsch, now in worldwide distribution. Some of the Company’s most recent productions include "Newfoundland At Armageddon", a story of slaughter at Beaumont Hamel which was aired as a two-hours Special Presentation on National CBC in English and French on the anniversary of Beaumont Hamel. Other films now in distribution include: “Love & Savagery”, directed by John N. Smith, a co-production with Kevin Tierney of Parkex Pictures (Good Cop, Bad Cop); Mary Walsh's "Young Triffie" a co-production with Cinemaginaire (The Barbarian Invasions). In post-production, a feature film “Away from Everywhere” directed by Justin Simms and starring Shawn Doyle and Jason Priestly will be released in October 2016. We are currently in development on several other documentaries and features including an inter-provincial co-production with Pierre Even at Item7 in Montreal. On the documentary front we are developing a feature documentary, “Moonshine” (the liquid kind), and a documentary co-production with Germany on Ellesmere Island’s “White Wolves”.

 

 

Barbara Doran, founder of Morag Loves Company, has been directing and producing internationally acclaimed documentary and drama for the past 30 years and has more than 30 films to her credit. Some of these include the recent award winning international box office hit, "The Grand Seduction", starring Brendon Gleeson and Taylor Kitsch. The diverse subjects of her films are a reflection of the breadth of her interests: the sweatshops in Guatemala, women prisoners in Pakistan, AIDS workers in South Africa, serial killers on death row, the music and poetry of Newfoundland and Ireland, and the French presence in Newfoundland. Barbara’s most recent production, "Newfoundland At Armageddon", is a story of slaughter at Beaumont Hamel, which will air as a two-hour special presentation on National CBC in English and French on the anniversary of Beaumont Hamel. In post-production, a feature film directed by Justin Simms and starring Shawn Doyle and Jason Priestly will be released in January 2016.

 

Doran is currently in development on several other international documentaries and features. Barbara currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Newfoundland & Labrador Arts Council, the International Women’s Federation. She travels extensively representing Newfoundland at various festivals throughout the world including The Cannes International Film Festival, The American Film Market and The Berlinale Festival. Barbara has been a member of the CMPA for over 30 years. She is also the owner of Trinity Bight Vacation Homes in Port Rexton, Newfoundland.
